NYSC passing out parade done, everyone without plans to stay back at their state of deployment was already finding their way out either to their state of residence prior to NYSC or the next location.

Here I am ruminating on how I spent the past year of my life.

Jay was my friend from the NYSC orientation camp and he came over to my place for a farewell visit. While we were conversing, we both talked about our place of primary assignment and how we lived our life all through our service year.

While talking about my experience, I talked about how much freedom I had due to the long distance between my residence and where other corp members lived.

Jay agreed I truly had freedom but not without boundaries. At first, I wanted to argue against his position but he explained that though I was free, I was still inbound because even though nobody was around to watch my actions, I still had the knowledge that I cannot do anything contrary to God’s will.

He was right, freedom always comes with limitations, and even freedom in Christ doesn’t mean you can do anything you want. It simply means all you do must be in accordance with Christ and nothing less. Your actions must align with his desires and your decisions according to his plan.

You are bound by the laws of the kingdom of God. You can’t afford to live anyhow because you have been bought with a price.

Christ adopted you to be his when he gave up his life on the cross and the holy spirit was given to us as the seal of our adoption.

He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will. Ephesians 1:5

Just like when a family adopts a child, he was initially a part of a previous family but by adoption, he becomes a part of his new family and must abide by the rules and regulations of living with his new family.

With this new family, all that he needs has been provided and all he needs to do is to obey his new parents and then he gets access to all the supplies that have been made available for him.

When the child leaves home for a strange town, he has temporarily abandoned his family but because he wants to make them proud, he never lets go of the wisdom and knowledge instilled in him. This same way should be our attitude in our love walk with God.

”In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:13–14

Let the knowledge of who you are in Christ take root in your heart. Let it find expression and fulfillment so that when you are suddenly far away from your spiritual friends and church folks, you would not be lost on what direction to go.

If this resounds with you, kindly let me know in the comment section or you can reach me on Twitter.

With love from my heart to yours.
