How I almost Got Beaten at Oshodi Bus Stop
Yes, I almost got beaten because of something so insignificant, thank God for God.
Oftentimes, when I use the public transport popularly known as Danfo, Coaster, Korope and what have you, there is usually a small fight between the conductor and one, two or more passengers, or you have a passenger screaming at the top of his or her voice asking for the balance from the bus fare especially when the passenger gives the bus conductor a higher denomination and the conductor does not or claims not to have lesser denominations as balance payment.
In most cases, I’m usually an onlooker who wonders and will almost offer unpaid counseling to the aggrieved passengers to remain calm and assure whoever is involved that the conductor will pay up. I think I did sometimes, but thankfully, it didn’t backfire.😆 😂
On this beautiful Sunday, I was on my way to Church and one compulsory and important route for me to take was Oshodi. I took this commercial bus from my bus stop heading to Oshodi, I gave the bus conductor a brand new #500 note. People were asking for their fee balance but I didn’t ask for mine(#1 Mistake). I was so confident that he’d give me my balance when I’m ready to alight.
P:S — Oshodi is a popular city in Lagos State, Nigeria.
We got to Oshodi, and everybody going to Oshodi, alighted from the bus. I alighted and walked towards the conductor because he was trying to help a passenger with luggage. Immediately I asked for my balance, and he changed it for me and insisted I gave him #200 instead of the claimed #500. Ah 🙆♀️🙆♀️🙆♀️
I was stunned, tried explaining myself but he shut me up. I felt weak and confused about what to do, the only thing that came to my mind was to go and sit on the bus and wait till he gives me my balance.
Thankfully the passenger with the luggage was my first seating partner, I had apparently changed seat because I was not convenient with where I sat(#2 Mistake), she confirmed that I gave the guy #500 and that was how he gave me my #300 balance.
I’m sure you’re wondering where I am headed, well, I’m getting there, if you keep reading, you will see where I’m headed.
Since that incident, I vowed to myself to
- Never interfere in a passenger-conductor conversation
- Always go with smaller denominations, and if you can’t afford this, always scream for the balance of the bus fare.
Just like my experience with the conductor, some of us have similar experiences with God. Jesus does not want you to live off what you heard from your friends, family, or church pastor only, he wants you to have a personal experience with him. He wants intimacy with you, he wants you to know how much he loves you, he wants your attention and devotion, he longs just to have you for himself doing life with him.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Nothing in this world can be compared to being loved by God, and guess what, he loved you way before you were conceived in your mother’s womb. He knows every step you will take right before you even took them, such a meticulous lover 😍. He even went steps deeper to make you in the likeness of his image, a whole you, looking like God, and then he handed over responsibilities and duties to you.
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and overall the creatures that move along the ground.” Gen. 1:26
When Adam sinned and was sent out of the Garden, he didn’t give up on you and mankind, instead, he offered his only son as ransom for our sins, who can ever do this? As humans, we wouldn’t dare do this for our friends not to talk to people we don’t even know. But God did, while we were yet sinners, he loved us ahead.
Why not let go and allow him in? Allow him into your life to take his position as Lord and King. Allow him to enjoy intimacy with you. Allow him to be your Lord and savior. Allow him to teach you to live for him. Allow him to be in charge of your life. Allow him to relieve you of all the pains, hurts, disappointments, anger, strife, bitterness, and shame. Allow him to give you peace for your troubles. Give him space to take his position in your life. Allow his kingdom to be established in your heart.
Jesus is calling you today, he wants to be your Father and Your Friend, he wants you to have rest from your worries. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal savior.

Lord Jesus, thank you for loving me enough to die on the cross for my sins. Today, I declare that you are Lord over my life and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that you died for my sins and my sins have been forgiven. From now henceforth, make me your own, keep me in your bosom, satisfy me and make my heart your abode.
