Influence X Being With Jesus
A short story……
I had just launched a digital product when one of my friends chatted me up with a multi-billion idea to scale that product. For all I know about this fellow, he’s smart, ambitious and intelligent so I knew definitely that all it will take for that fly was my YES or NO.
How did I know? I’ve spent time with him. I’ve picked his brain on several occasions. I’ve heard him hold conversations related to that subject matter. I have seen him get results on that subject matter.
When he approached me with that idea, my first response wasn’t to turn it down, I laughed hard because I knew even if I will or will not be going with that idea, he just dropped something quite heavy on me, a seed that would go on to grow and produce seed in multiple folds. That’s the impact of influence on your life.
If you see me pulling up giant ideas, and telling you point blank that it’s possible, just know that I have indeed been influenced by the people around me.
This is how our story should be in our walk with God.
Now, I was not walking nor did I become friends with that person because I needed to pick his brain or get him to share his idea with him. I was friends with him, and by virtue of that friendship, I had access to gifts, features, benefits and everything.
Knowing God should not be because we need him to give us gifts, and spending time with him should not be because of what you think you can get from him.
There is more to your relationship with God. There is a place for influencing your decisions to reflect God, there is a place for guiding you from going astray, there is a place of provision for the things you need and even the ones you don’t know you need, and there is a place of sending you on errands and assignments. There is a place for leading to fulfilling a purpose. The list is endless.
Now imagine what you stand to lose if you choose to focus on the gifts instead of the giver of the gifts.
The result of spending time with Jesus is not only the gifts, God’s overall goal for man is for his pleasure, so being with him means your life itself will be influenced for his pleasure.
Our proximity to God gives us access to all that we need to live a Godly life, so why struggle figuring it out on your own or hanging on the few fruits you can get from afar instead of living in the vineyard where you have access to everything?
Allow yourself to be influenced by God so you can have sufficient resources to live your best life in God. This does not literally mean that you will have everything good, but that both the pleasant and unpleasant will help you to live the best life in God.
