Midnight Tales and Frozen Pineapples
It’s 11:59 PM Sunday 23rd April 2023, but I’m here munching on frozen pineapple because my digestive system shuts itself down for the day once it’s 7 pm for reasons best known to it.
Oftentimes, whenever I explain to people that I can’t eat solid food once it’s late into the night, I get weird stares because it either seems impossible or they can’t relate or I’m being picky and forming ajebo (rich kid). Not like I care about their opinion.
BTW, frozen pineapple bangs! Take it from me
Any day I willingly or mistakenly choose to ignore the shutdown, I suffer for it the following morning by visiting the toilet as frequently as the urge comes because I need to empty my bowels. Reminds me of one time I almost messed up myself on my way to the office, shout out to the Access Bank Branch at Obalende.
Oh yes, because I used my coconut head to eat when it’s past 7 pm, I end up with indigestion or worse constipation and of course, I will be uncomfortable till I completely empty my bowel of whatever sweet delicacy I ate the previous night.
For example, a few days ago, a colleague celebrated his birthday and provided lunch for everybody. I already had lunch by the time it was delivered, so I thought it would be better as dinner seeing that I usually get to the house before 8 pm and I did get home before 8 pm.
No, it’s not food poisoning. The only time I enjoy my morning is when I eat bread, cereals, or fruits like my frozen pineapple for dinner. My go-to fruit used to be orange but the last one I bought gave me PTSD so I’m staying away for now, so I turned to Apple. I haven’t had pineapple in a while, so I thought to try it and make it frozen while trying it.
Why am I eating pineapple at this time of the day? I’m hungry.
Well, tomorrow is a public holiday so I might as well exhaust myself by staying awake into the night to wrap up some pending tasks. This reminds me of when covid happened.
I was learning coding around that time, and due to the fact that data was cheap at night, I stay awake learning and working on assignments through the night.
I hit the bed between 3 am and 6 am, on days when I sleep early in the evening to wake up at midnight, I can be up till the entire house wakes up and after the early morning routine, I’m hitting the bed to wake up in the afternoon hungry for food.
I thought I was hustling to become a software developer, I didn’t know that I was sowing a seed for something more. Two things that I can point out as my benefit from that season:
- I can stay up all through the night as long as I have something to do like this article I’m writing.
- I know and understand that Google is my best friend.
There are other significant things I can tag as benefits, but I choose to stick with this two for the purpose of this piece.
Time and season are features in our life that we can’t afford to ignore because when we do, we may be unable to maximize the learnings and opportunities attached to them.
Whatever season you find yourself in, live fully in it. Maximize that season as though there won’t be another opportunity for you.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1–8
Make mistakes, fall forward, try again, and keep trying. Cry if you have to, and laugh as much as you can. We can’t go back to change the timing of events around us, but we can maximize them. We can use them as leverage for growth. Don’t be in a hurry to leave.
Like my pastor will always say, every man to his own process and story. It’s yours embrace it and be comfortable in it while you make strides to outgrow that phase. Nobody ever got to where they are simply by dreaming it, they got there by putting in the work and becoming better.
P:S This was meant to be a rant about frozen pineapples, but I’m glad it went the way it did. 😂 😂
