My 2020 in review

As much as 2020 wasn’t the year for some of us, you will agree with me that as much as we did not quite achieve our goals as planned in January 2020, we still made some achievements no matter how small it might be.😊🤗

The fact that you are alive and reading this article is an achievement on its own because I can assure you, by reading this you are increasing your knowledge and exposing your mind to certain things that will come in handy sometimes in the future or sooner than that.

We are not going to ignore the lessons we learnt while going through this year, as they will definitely influence our decisions and choices or it already has.

I will advice you to grab a pen, your notepad or journal and make a list of lessons you learned alongside the experiences that taught you those lessons and you will be amazed at how much you have grown from those lessons and experiences whether good or bad.

I made a list of some of the lessons I learnt in 2020,(I wish I could give you all 😉).

  • People will always want to have a say in your life. It is left to you, if their decision should rule your life or not. We are human and by nature, we want our opinion to count but watch out not to allow other people’s opinion of you to become your reality.
  • Stand up for yourself. Others can also stand up for you but the bulk of the process is on you. If you don’t stand up for yourself, nobody will. You are strategic in your growth process.

You can only grow if you are willing to put in the effort. Absolutely nobody will stand up for you if you don’t stand up for yourself. Project your visions with confidence, nobody wants to be associated with someone with zero confidence.

  • You are the key to your growth. Nobody will help you to grow if you decide not to grow. People can only contribute to your growth process. You must put in the time and energy if you want other people to contribute to your growth.
  • Your story and process are peculiar to you. You are you. Nobody can do you like you. (I hope you feel the fire in this emoji 🔥) Your dreams, visions, and aspirations are valid like everybody else and nobody will do it like you.

Your experiences are what form your story and your story is unique just like you. If God wanted everybody to have the same experiences that will birth the same story, he would have created us the same but he did not which means that we have roles to play in God’s plan for humanity.

  • Don’t have high expectations of people around you 👂. They are human and so they are not perfect. I fell for this several times and thanks to the holy spirit who kept reminding me not to be too hard on people around me. Give them space to express themselves around you without the fear of stepping on your toes.
  • Be willing to learn the right thing, unlearn the wrong thing, and relearn the right things. I learned many many things and this medium post might not do enough justice to it. I practically did a lot of unlearning and relearning and I am excited to do more in 2021. 💃

And finally: God doesn’t make bad things happen to you. I repeat, God doesn’t make bad things happen to you. I learned this the hard way when 2020 hit me and I questioned God because my experiences were in contrast to his promises to me.

Jerimiah 11:29 says, “For I know the plans I have for you[this is ] the Lord’s declaration, plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

So tell me, how will someone make a promise as good as this and still make bad things happen to you. It’s not possible and then he even went further to provide comfort even if you find yourself in a bad situation, he has made provisions for you because you belong to him.

Isaiah 43:2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. when you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

From all the lessons I shared, you will notice that they all had one common ground or more but I’m holding on to one which is YOU. Whatever lessons you learn is to your advantage and you are not directly doing anyone a favor by learning.

When you open yourself to learning, you expand your knowledge and your ability to read in between the lines.

I hope I have been able to convince you and not confuse you, that 2020 has been an amazing year.

Cheers to the remaining days in 2020. 🥂🍾

With love from me to you. 😊
