Thursday Rants
It’s 8:17 am on a Thursday morning, I had a sort of restless night coupled with a power outage and Lagos traffic. I think I slept on the bus, or not. Attended my church’s monthly retreat some weeks ago where my church pastor hammered on the importance of having a routine that would serve as a means to achieve the goals in our hearts.
That particular weekend felt like my invisible wig was dragged and thrown into the ocean. Prior to the retreat, I’ve had nudgings to have a routine and follow through religiously, in fact, I had even created task notifications with my google calendar but after 1 or 2 days, I couldn’t continue.
There could be a thousand and 1 reasons why I couldn’t continue, the overall reason has to be, why do I want to have a routine? What do I look forward to achieving with this routine?

Yes, I had a goal I wanted to achieve. Some people will suggest accountability, it will work if you have a goal you want to achieve but if you don’t you may end up like me starting today and suspending tomorrow because you don’t have a goal you are committed to.
An acquaintance once shared a screenshot about how you can split your goals into daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. Well, I intend to do that and I believe it should work for me, if it doesn’t we try again with another strategy.
I’m writing this in March 2022, by the end of April, I will talk about if my strategy worked or not. This should be my own form of accountability.
While I was writing this, one of my colleagues walked up to me, caught a glimpse of this, and went ahead to indulge me on how I find it easy to write despite my job, my 9–5 is actually unrelated to my writing career.
After our conversation, he told me he was amazed about how I’m doing so much on the inside while it looked like the only thing I had running was my 9–5, and of course, he added that I inspire him to do much more beyond just showing up for work.

I laughed and shared the words of one of my mentors, Coach Debola Deji-Kurunmi, aka DDK, “If all you do with your life is your 9–5, then you are leaving money on the table”.
I want to add that when I started writing this, I didn’t know what I was writing, it started from just wanting to rant about my morning to set myself up for accountability on my goals. You don’t have to have everything figured out at the beginning, just start, and as you go on, clarity will form and you will have achieved your goals.
